Carnival Guest Requests a Burger Already Available – Just in a Different Spot

It is no surprise to any cruiser just how much food and how many different food options are available on a cruise ship, but sometimes those choices may not always be exactly where you expect them.

With more and more travelers becoming health conscious and following plant-based diets, it is understandable that requests for meat alternatives would be on the rise. But can you still get Carnival Cruise Line’s famous Guy’s Burger – just without the burger?

Or rather, with a veggie burger – to still enjoy the taste and all the great choices from the toppings bar, but without the meat.

One recent Carnival guest asked John Heald, the cruise line’s brand ambassador, about the possibility after having to do without a tasty Guy’s Burger on Mardi Gras.

“Just off the Mardi Gras – I don’t eat meat but I used to love Guy’s burgers,” the guest explained. “Would you guys ever get a plant-based burger on board?”

It’s refreshing to see such a request that isn’t demanding all meat be removed or claiming that “everyone” would agree with their dietary preferences. Truly, there are so many delicious options onboard Carnival ships, there is something for everyone.

In fact, what this guest is interested in is actually already onboard Mardi Gras and all 28 other ships in the Carnival fleet, just not exactly where they might have hoped to find it.

“We do have one. I’m so sorry if you didn’t know, but there is a fabulous plant-based burger available from the deli on that ship,” Heald responded. “It’s exquisite. It’s actually on every ship. I hope you get to enjoy that next time.”

The deli on Mardi Gras – Piazza Panini – is located on Deck 8, starboard side, just forward of the Guest Services desk and next to the ever-popular Pizzeria del Capitano. Guy’s Burger Joint is located on Deck 17, port side, closer to midship.

Of course, it would not take long for a guest to grab a veggie burger then head up to Guy’s Burger Joint for the tasty toppings.

That is one possible “hack” for a delicious veggie burger onboard, while another guest noted that it is also possible to pick up a bun and toppings from Guy’s Burger Joint first, then head down to Piazza Panini for the burger.

For strict vegans, however, this may not be as desirable, as the buns for Guy’s Burger Joint are toasted on the same grill as where the meat is cooked.

Admittedly, I’ve only ever tried veggie burgers once – years ago, not on a cruise, and I wasn’t too impressed – but this might be a good option to try again!

What About Turkey Burgers?

Another guest also made a suggestion to Heald for a healthier option at Guy’s Burger Joint – a turkey burger.

“Turkey burgers. These are healthier and just as popular as hamburgers. Please add them to your menu at Guy’s Burgers. They would be just as popular as the hamburgers,” the guest commented.

The comparison that turkey burgers are “healthier” than hamburgers may not be entirely accurate depending on what dietary facts – fat, sodium, cholesterol, calories, etc. – matter most to individual travelers, and popularity is always subjective.

While Heald did not respond directly to the guest’s request for turkey burgers, he did add the option to his daily poll, letting his roughly 610,000 followers decide.

Of the more than 45,500 votes cast, just 4% (approximately 1,800) agree that they would order a turkey burger just as often – if not more often – than a regular hamburger.

On the other hand, 29% (roughly 13,200) votes note they would not order a turkey burger. Some guests do suggest other alternatives, such as a grilled chicken breast aboard ships without a Shaq’s Big Chicken restaurant.

Personally, I would happily try a turkey burger – better than buying a whole package at the grocery store in case I don’t like them! – but I just can’t agree that I would consider it just as popular as a hamburger.

But that’s the beauty of all the great food available onboard a cruise ship – choose what you are interested in, what you like the most, what you want to try – and enjoy yourself!
