Carnival Legend Begins Season from San Francisco for the First Time

The 88,500 gross ton Carnival Legend arrived at the Port of San Francisco today, May 8, 2025, where it will be homeporting for the first time.

While it will be a seasonal homeport, the arrival of the vessel marks the second time ever that the Carnival fleet has sailed out of the Bay Area.

Port leaders joined the ship’s senior officers during a welcoming ceremony, which included the traditional plaque exchange of honor to celebrate Carnival Legend’s first arrival.

Present at the ceremony was Captain Mark Harlow, who has been working for Carnival Cruise Line for almost 25 years.

“The Carnival Legend team is proud to homeport in beautiful San Francisco for the very first time, said Harlow, sharing his excitement.

Guests cruising on Carnival Legend will be able to enjoy the newly refreshed vessel, which now includes the Hero’s Tribute Bar & Lounge, Dreams Studio, and Chef’s Table.

Also enhanced were the Cloud 9 Spa and Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, giving passengers many new and improved experiences to choose from.

The arrival of the 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend also completes Carnival’s deployment for the upcoming Alaska cruising season — joining Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Spirit, which are both at their season homeport in Seattle, Washington.

“We’re looking forward to sailing guests on unique cruises, connecting this vibrant city with the stunning landscapes of Alaska’s most popular destinations, Harlow added.

Itineraries will rotate between a 10-night round-trip cruise to Alaska and a 4-night round-trip cruise to Mexico.

The vessel departed today for its first of 21 cruises and will call on one port in Ensenada, Mexico, on May 10.

Then, Carnival Legend will depart on its first Alaskan cruise on May 12, making stops in Juneau, Skagway, the May Tracy Arm Fjord, and Ketchikan as well as stopping in Prince Rupert, Canada.

Also available will be one 15-night round-trip itinerary to Hawaii in September, which will be the ship’s second-to-last cruise of the season out of San Francisco. This itinerary calls on several scenic destinations, including Maui, Kahului, Honolulu, Nawiliwili, Oahu, Kauai, and Hilo.

In early October, the vessel will embark on a repositioning cruise, which will arrive at its next seasonal homeport in Gavelston, Texas, on October 22.

While Carnival Legend is in Northern California, the cruise line is hoping that by adding voyages from the Port of San Francisco, it will give cruisers who sail from the West Coast more options to choose from.

Carnival’s Exciting Offerings for Alaskan Itineraries in 2025

The 2025 Alaskan cruising season promises to be an exciting one for Carnival, as the cruise line now has three ships sailing through the scenic state this summer, as mentioned above.

Just last week, Carnival Luminosa arrived at the Port of Seattle, not only to begin its Alaska cruising season, but also to celebrate the now 15-year partnership between the port and Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Spirit, which recently completed a month-long dry dock, kicked off Carnival’s Alaskan cruises for the 2025 season back in April.

This ship will also be sailing the very same 7-night itineraries as Carnival Luminosa until late September, when it will embark on a 15-night round-trip cruise to Hawaii, similar to Carnival Legend.

The vessel will go on a repositioning cruise in early October, where it will be heading to its next homeport in New Orleans, Louisiana.

While there is not a ton of variety in the itineraries available, there are more than enough opportunities for West Coast cruisers to explore Alaska on a Carnival ship — especially now that Carnival Legend is homeporting in San Francisco!

You know what they say, West Coast, best coast… but admittedly, I am biased as a California native myself.
