Disney Adventure Opens Palo to Kids of All Ages on Holiday Sailing
Key Aspects:
Disney Cruise Line is allowing younger children to dine at Palo Trattoria on at least one Disney Adventure sailing.
Children ages 3-12 will receive special brunch pricing, with an à la carte children’s menu available at dinner.
Palo Trattoria already welcomed guests ages 10 and older, while Palo restaurants elsewhere in the fleet are adults-only.
While Disney Cruise Line has always been considered one of the most family-friendly cruise lines in the industry, it has traditionally offered several adult escapes onboard. One such locale, however, has been opened up to younger guests on at least one sailing.
The change concerns Palo Trattoria, an Italian specialty restaurant aboard Disney Adventure themed around Pixar’s 2021 film, Luca. Guests booked on an upcoming sailing aboard the 208,000-gross-ton ship have received emails from the cruise line informing them that Palo Trattoria will be opened up to guests of all ages.
“As part of our continued efforts to create more ways for families to enjoy Palo together, we are delighted to share that Guests of all ages can dine together during your sailing,” the email reads.
Children between the ages of 3 and 12 will receive special pricing for the restaurant’s brunch offerings. For dinner, children can order from an a la carte menu upon request.
Disney has not released the special brunch pricing, nor details regarding the dinner kids’ menu. The change has been confirmed for one sailing, a 3-night round-trip cruise from Singapore departing December 28, 2026, though unconfirmed reports have circulated of the change coming to additional sailings in November 2026 and February 2027.
Is the Change Coming to Other Ships?
Palo restaurants exist in some form on all 8 Disney Cruise Line vessels. The older Magic and Dream Class ships feature the original Palo, while the newer Wish Class vessels have Palo Steakhouse.
Disney Adventure is currently the only ship in the fleet that features the unique Luca-themed version of the restaurant. While previous iterations of Palo have been adults-only, Palo Trattoria already broke from tradition by allowing guests as young as 10 years old.
It’s currently unknown if the cruise line plans to roll out this change across the fleet, or if it will remain exclusive to select sailings aboard Disney Adventure. Disney has not publicly commented on the possibility.
Opinions Are Mixed on the Change
Discussing the change on Facebook, fans expressed mixed opinions. While some were happy with the change, others felt that younger guests should be excluded to maintain the upscale atmosphere.
“As a parent. No. Absolutely not,” one person commented. “There needs to be an adult exclusive dinner/meal/restaurant space. Almost the entirety of the ship is focused on families.”
“I’m in the minority here where I’m happy I can finally bring my kid to Palo and use our platinum benefits,” said another.
As Cruise Hive has previously reported, Disney has made other changes to Palo’s policies in recent years. Earlier this month, the cruise line removed the prix-fixe menu option for the venue across the fleet, moving to exclusively à la carte pricing.
In exchange, though, Platinum and Pearl Castaway Club guests, as well as those staying in the same stateroom, were provided a $55 Palo credit. This is equivalent to the previous cost of the prix-fixe menu.
In another change, the cruise line softened the dress code for the upscale venue in 2024. While formal or semi-formal attire was recommended and shorts were not permitted, the rules were loosened to allow dress shorts at brunch.
Those previous changes were not without their detractors, and the latest adjustment to Palo’s age restrictions has similarly divided fans. For guests who value the quiet, upscale escape from the family-focused atmosphere elsewhere onboard, the change represents a significant shift in the venue’s appeal.
